For anyone new to my page, the end of 2017 and start of 2018 has been very tough for me and my family.
Our dog, Beasley, became extremely sick in mid-October and was violently ill the rest of the month into November. He lost so much weight. We took him to our vet, another vet to have an ultrasound, and then the emergency vet hospital and ended up having to leave him at the hospital. They told us it was pancreatitis, so my husband and I were of course hopeful that he would get better. In addition to the emotional stress, all of this took thousands and thousands of dollars.
On November 5th, the hospital told us to come pick him up. He was so pitiful, and at this point we knew that we would spend a few days left with him before we said goodbye. On November 8th, we got the call with his test results: Beasley had lymphoma.
Chemo was no longer an option at this point, so we decided to try prednisone with him. He immediately bounced back!!
We got to enjoy all of December with our amazing, sweet boy. Beasley is the type of dog you just fall in love with right when you meet him- such a sweetheart!! We went for walks, played fetch, he chased squirrels, we took him for car rides- our boy was back! I cherished every single moment, because I knew it would be short.
We had to decrease the dosage for the prednisone, and once that happened the tumors on his neck started to grow. Last week was the first time he started showing bad signs again. I’m sitting on the couch right now watching him sleeping in a ray of sunshine. We’re in his final few days now. I feel like he’s telling me it’s time. I know I’m going to need all of my strength to say goodbye.
I can’t describe the pain I’m feeling right now. My heart is broken. I’ve never gone through anything like this before, so if you have any words of encouragement I’d be really thankful for them.
